Only users with administrator access rights can create invoice templates directly from an invoice. Create or open an invoice. Change the content of notes before invoice rows and notes after invoice rows if needed. The text in these fields will be saved to the invoice template also. Open invoices Settings tab. Change the Invoice template settings as you like them to be. Then select Save as organization template and give a name for the new template. Click Save to save changes and new template. Case custom template is a template that can not be managed in settings. Custom template is created when invoice free text fields or invoice settings are changed on the invoice itself. After saving these changes on an invoice, invoice template menu on a case will display custom and next invoice created for the case will use the settings of the previous invoice. Custom template can only be managed on the invoice.

If you are using an Excel sheet to track payments, you may find that the simplest is chronological – use the next number in the numerical series. But that may not be intuitive invoicing system as your Excel invoice tracker gets longer, plus, chronological numbers can quickly become a mouthful. At a minimum, your template should include basic information about your freelance business as well as the details of the service you’re providing to your client.
You might start using a service like Paypal to receive payments online. Those services all offer integrated online invoicing tools, which can save you time and effort, and many include an online pay now option, which can reduce the amount of time you wait to get paid. If you are freelancing or in the early days of your small business or startup, you can probably get by with using free templates for a while, sending your invoices as email attachments, or even handing them to your customers in person. At some point, as your customers increase and managing your cash flow gets a little more complicated, you will probably start thinking about using an accounting tool like Quickbooks or Xero.
